Coddle Those Eggs!

I was sorting some odds and ends in boxes we have stored in the upstairs portion of our house when I came across this little item.  It's an Egg Coddler - have you ever coddled an egg?  I haven't!  What a pretty vintage cookware/servingware from the past!  Crack the egg and place it inside, salt and pepper, add seasonings to taste - simply screw on the sliver lid and lower it into a hot pan of water, covering it completely.  After 6 minutes the egg should be cooked and ready to eat!  How simple and elegant!

That is so neat. I had heard of coddling an egg but never knew what it meant.
Have you tried it yet?

I've never heard of anything like that before! That sounds neat. You'll have to give it a try and let us know how it worked out for you.

I have one of these with a rabbit on it, but I never coddled eggs in it. I wound up putting my oldest son's baby teeth in it as he lost them! haha!

That is really neat. I have never seen one that you put in hot water but I do have a microwaveable egg that fits four eggs in it and you put it in there four minutes and you have (boiled is what they look like)microwaveable eggs.Would coddling the egg be like poached, I see people on tv eating these out of the little ceramic egg.We usually scamble or fry ours and cook with them. Have you tried egg in the hole? Take a biscuit cutter and cut a hole in the middle of the piece of butttered bread and put bread on griddle and pour egg into center and turn over after its cooked its really good.I make little bacon sandwiches out of the center part of bread. My blog has some white splotches across it got to go find out whats wrong before I do anymore reading.

I've seen those before but NEVER knew what it was! A coddled egg sounds close to a poached egg...and would be yummy I bet. I'd top it with chives, s&p.

Love it, that should be out not stuck in a box somewhere...it's just too cute. Sounds like poached eggs to me, my Mom used to make those for us when we were growing up. They are great on toast.

How cool! this would be great for making my Caesar Dressing....as long as it just heated the egg up to a certain temperature....
