Chicken Wings - Gotta Love 'Em!

This morning when I was headed out the door, I looked at the hen house as I always do.  I enjoy the look of recognition on the faces of "the girls" when they see me coming... anticipation in their expressions as they focus on the feed pail I tote.  They generally gather near the fence, crowding out the lower ranking pullets, and gradually push their way towards the gate, meeting me as I lift the latch.
It's that Darned Barnevelder (right) that's getting us in trouble!
My gaze was interrupted as I noticed movement on the TOP of the hen house - - - It was those Darned Barenvelder Pullets!  Sneaky little chooks!  At 6 months of age they are old enough to start laying, but clipping those flight feathers isn't recommended until they reach around 8 months of age - reason being - they are still growing.

Just look at those THIGHS!

Well, I don't need them to "fly the coop", so I'm thinking I'll soon have to shorten those longer feathers a mite.  It is hard to explain to those babes about predators and such, that might be looking for a tasty snack of chicken wings or thighs.  Colonel Sanders is only ONE thing to worry about when you're a chicken!
